2010 AAUW Annual Book Sale
Thank You!
The Walla Walla branch of AAUW (American Association of University Women), wishes to thank all those who in any way contributed to the success of our recent 35th Annual Book Sale Fundraiser at the Marcus Whitman Hotel.
You have proved once again that Walla Wallans are amazing.
To the community at large, thank you for your generous book donations. Without them, there would be no book sale. Thank you also for your patronage. You and your families found lots of great bargains and your support will provide many deserving women with financial assistance to return to college, complete their education and bring their talents back to the community for all our benefit.
Thank you to the staff and management of The Marcus Whitman Hotel for your gracious hospitality.
Thank you to all the DeSales and Wa-Hi student volunteers and local businesses for your various contributions. You are all very important parts of the jig-saw puzzle that is our annual book sale.
One of the most daunting tasks involved in producing this book sale is the very real issue of logistics. How do you move thousands of boxes of books from storage to the sale venue and back? You get lucky, and meet terrific people with unique skills and resources. Such has been the case for AAUW.
Our benefactors have come from WWCC, and they deserve special thanks. For several years now Steve Harvey, instructor in the WWCC Commercial Driving Program, has donated his time and the use of his semi-truck and trailer rig to transport our books.
For several years as well, Les Echtenkamp, instructor in the WWCC John Deere Program and the young men of the John Deere Club have done all the heavy lifting. Together, they have loaded and unloaded the trailer by hand and have played a big part in getting thousands of boxes of books onto the sale tables and then packed up and back to storage after the sale. We can’t say enough nice things about their good will, professionalism, enthusiasm and hard work. Thank you all gentlemen, you are each much appreciated.
Finally, thank you our branch members, who dream big, plan and execute.
Applications are now being accepted for the AAUW Educational Scholarships.
These scholarships have been established to provide assistance to women who have completed at minimum one year of college (30 semester or 45 quarter credits) and have a desire to complete their undergraduate or post-graduate education. Please note that there must be a break of at least one year at some time during the college education process.
The scholarship committee is seeking women who demonstrate a desire to continue their education by completing or adding to their degree. While past academic performance will be considered, of equal importance is the person’s clearly demonstrated community involvement and enthusiasm for future community commitment. The individual financial need of the applicants will be considered in making the awards. The scholarship funds will be directed to the college of the recipient’s choice to be used as needed for educational expenses.
Completed applications must be received by April 16, 2010.
